The Attorney-General and Minister for Public Enterprises, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, said the introduction of these short code numbers is part of a Government-wide initiative to enhance customer service and encourage interaction between Government and the general public.

BAF Executive Chairman, Xavier Riyaz Khan, said that BAF officers will be available 24 hours on the short code numbers to assist the general public calling or texting for advice.

“Customers are the most important component of our daily business and we will strive to build lasting cordial relationships with our customers and address all their biosecurity related needs,” he said.

“We have been receiving many enquiries on termites, American iguana and on other biosecurity related issues from the general public via telephone, email, websites and facebook. This is why we have introduced short code numbers so that customers can easily access Biosecurity Officers for assistance and receive relevant and immediate advice,” he said.

“Short codes are a great way to reach out to customers. It is easier to remember compared to long phone numbers and website addresses and as such people can easily call BAF whenever they need assistance or advice.”

Mr Khan added that short codes allow for two-way communication process adding that not only will general public be able to receive prompt advice from BAF officers but BAF will also get feedback from them on the services provided and ways to improve it.

“Short codes will also enhance BAF’s branding.”

Mr Khan urged the public to use short code numbers provided by BAF.
