Information for Airline Operators

All aircrafts arriving into Fiji must proceed to an approved “port of first entry”, also called “approved port of first arrival”. If the operator/owner wishes to take an aircraft to a place other than those approved for international arrivals, then the operator/owner must first seek approval from the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF) and other border control agencies for clearance of aircraft prior to landing at the undeclared port of entry.

For non-commercial, unscheduled and diverted flights, the captain, operator or agent must notify Biosecurity Authority of Fiji or any Biosecurity officer of the aircraft’s arrival 60 minutes (1 hour) before the estimated time of arrival.

All aircrafts, passengers and crew and their baggage are cleared as per standard operational procedure of BAF concerning international arrival.

Refuse

All aircraft refuse must be removed and taken to the transitional storage facility by the contracted operator or the owner before it is sent to the incinerator for disposal under biosecurity supervision.

Cargo in transit

All biosecurity regulated items in transit require a “transit permit” issued by the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji (BAF). These cargoes must remain airside, either on the aircraft, or in an approved transitional facility under biosecurity supervision.

Other imported cargoes can be taken directly to the transitional facility. The inspection and clearance of these cargoes is to be arranged by customs brokers, freight forwarders or importers themselves with BAF.
